Spring Studio Art Classes at Mystic Arts Center

Spring Classes Start Soon

Spring is approaching and Mystic Museum of Art is starting another season of affordable, beginner art programs for childrenPastels by Sarah Acevedo and adults! From painting and photography to fashion design and weaving there are plenty of classes to choose from for a range of interests.

New Classes

This spring, look for fiber artist, Suzi Ballenger, who will be teaching two new classes in the KTJ Studios: “Textiles: Fashion Smart to Fashion Savvy” and “Weaving: Basics But Not Plain!”. Suzi has been weaving since she first stepped into a small studio on the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia in 1981. She explores the concepts of order and disorder and the many unusual materials that fabric can include such as; bamboo, cotton, metal, paper, plants, and plastics. Thanks to Slater Mill Museum in Pawtucket, Rhode Island for loaning us their looms.

Suzi recently served as Techno Craft co-curator and exhibitor at Hera Gallery at the Jamestown Art Center and currently teaches fashion at Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center (MET) in Providence, Rhode Island.

Returning Teachers

Gigi Horr Liverant returns to MMoA this spring with “Unleashing Color in Your Paintings”. Gigi has worked with pastels and paint for over 30 years. Her work is inspired by inconsequential moments and places in life. She juxtaposes rich colors, encouraging the observer to experience an ordinary scene with a fresh vision.

Discounts for MMoA Students

Adults taking art classes will be glad to hear that Mystic Museum of Art has struck a deal with West Hartford’s Jerry’s Artarama, so our students will now receive 20% off art supplies for MMoA’s classes. Students will only need to show their supply list with MMoA’s name on it to qualify. As is still the case, MMoA students may visit the local Artware store, which is inside Finer Line Gallery to receive the same discount on supplies. Call ahead to check on availability.

Mystic Museum of Art’s spring studio art classes begin in late March and April and continue into May and June. See our LEARN section for more info on classes
