Liz Lomax began teaching children’s art classes, outreach programming and Artini workshops at MMoA in 2017. She has become a valued and deeply loved faculty member. Her passion for children’s art coupled with her fun and whimsical approach to everything she does has brought an energy and joyfulness (along with a lot of glitter) to our KTJ Studios. We are grateful for her talent and dedication that she has brought to MMoA’s education department.
Liz shares with MMoA some videos from her 2010 holiday window display at Barney’s New York, a previously recorded studio visit created during a past exhibition at Duke University’s Nasher Museum of Art, and some shots of her work in progression!
About the Artist
Liz Lomax is an award-winning New York artist who incorporates sculpture, design, painting and photography into her work.
Simon Doonan commissioned Liz to create one of her most visible projects to date, the sculpting of giant celebrity chef heads for the famous Barneys Holiday Windows.
Liz’s work has been licensed and sold worldwide. After being commissioned by CowParade to decorate a life-sized cow for display at Newark Airport, her creation, “Angelicow,” was one of the most reproduced sculptures, became an international best-seller, and was purchased at a charitable auction by Ringo Starr.
Liz also creates illustrations for advertising campaigns, magazines, newspapers, books and album covers. Her unique, hand-sculpted illustration style, which grew from a love of creating shoebox dioramas as a child, is a breath of fresh air in this age of computer generated imagery.
She is widely recognized as one of the leading figures in her field and has been published in Communication Arts, American Illustration, Society of Illustrators, TASCHEN art books and many prestigious books on illustration. She has chaired and juried illustration competitions and taught at Parsons, Pratt and lectured worldwide.
Her clients include Barneys NY, Black Entertainment Television, Bloomberg, DC Comics, Entertainment Weekly, Lucky Brand Jeans, Miramax, Newsweek, Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp, Rolling Stone, Saatchi & Saatchi, Seventeen, and VH1 Classic (and many more).
She graduated with honors from the Illustration Department at Parsons School of Design (BFA).
