Linda King is an artist from North Kingston, RI who specializes in mixed media.
“I love the texture and dimension that different papers add to the composition, combining the fluidity of wet on wet acrylic paint to create movement, and the textures of torn paper to bring solidity.”
She became an Elected Artist member at MMoA in 2019.
About the Artist
Linda enjoys capturing the power of the sea crashing against the rocky coastline and is intrigued by its ever changing coloration and textures created by the weather patterns commonly seen in New England.
She has experience working with different media, but is fond of working in acrylics and collage. Her work focuses on texture and dimension through her use of paper and mixed media to create depth and movement. She finds inspiration for compositions by focusing on the abstract forms of everyday scenes and subjects in nature. Early on, she was particularly inspired by the crashing surf at Beavertail in Jamestown. Today, it remains to be her favorite source of inspiration.
Linda attributes her success to other local New England artists she has worked alongside over the years as well as her mentor Barbara Besson Delannoy. Linda has received many awards for her collage seascapes and abstracts. Her work is in private and corporate collections throughout New England as well as New York, North Carolina and Virginia. Besides being an Elected Artist member at the Mystic Museum of Art, she is also currently an artist member of Artists Cooperative Gallery of Westerly, South County Art Association, and the Wickford Art Association.
“Recently I have been painting on nautical charts of local harbors and coastline as well as my personal favorite high surface illustration board. One of my chart paintings “Charted Territory” won first prize in Conanicut Island Art Association’s annual summer show last July. Exhibiting in Rhode Island art groups both member and juried shows as well as invitationals I have received awards for my abstracts as well as seascapes. I am a juried artist member of Artists Cooperative Gallery of Westerly and will be a featured artist in their upcoming August show.”
