Marguerite Hanson was the middle of three children, the only daughter of Bertha and Theodore Willard Hanson, who was born in Norway. During her life she lived in Pennsylvania; Queens, New York; Yorkshire, England in 1920s; and finally New London, Connecticut, where she was employed as a Professor of Art at Connecticut College. She never married.
