These artworks were all created within the last year, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the third Members & Elected Artists Exhibition I have been fortunate enough to organize as Exhibitions Manager of Mystic Museum of Art, and—though the exhibition is always unthemed—I always find it interesting what the latest unintentional “trend” will be. Ships and the shore are always perennial favorites in this seaside community; last year we had a delightfully large amount of animals on display. One year there was a surprisingly muted color palette across the board. This year, probably due to our shared experience of social distancing and isolation over the past eleven months, the biggest consensus seems to be landscapes, marshscapes, seascapes. Lots of nature, with bright pops of color to keep the spirits up, offset and balanced by earth-toned sculptures and tranquil, palate-cleansing monochrome. This selection of work was really fun to work with.
